Salons in many times and places have been an occasion for people to meet, chat, and exchange ideas. In Spain, they were known as academias and were an important opportunity to enjoy chamber music as well as conversation. The music heard in academias around the beginning of the 19th century covered the whole spectrum of musicianship, from curious amateurs to the most celebrated virtuosos, and the blurring of social labels and free sharing of knowledge embodied Enlightenment ideals and inserted Spain into the European intellectual trends of the moment. Join us as we welcome you into the music of the Salón Español!
